1.2 History of Plastic

  • In 1862, Alexander Parkes was created the first human made plastic or polymer. It consisted of cellulose, which allowed it to be heated and moulded into various shapes.
  • Polymer naturally made of materials like wool, cellulose, and hemp. Perks invention was displayed in the Great International Convention in London.
  • In today’s world plastic has become the most versatile material used by people across the world since it is very convenient to use in our day to day life.
  • From supermarkets to households, it is in use for almost every sector of the economy. Plastic is been used by every person.
  • Plastic pollution is the most worldwide issue affecting ocean health, food safety, and quality, human health, coastal tourism, the biggest contribution to climate change.
  • Later, John Wesley Hyatt bring his idea into commercial recognition. In 1907, he invented Bakelite – the fully synthetic plastic which was originating from a fossil fuel source. It was more like plastic in today world.
